Center for Interaction Design

May 2004 to November 2004, Beijing, P.R. China
Worked with management, senior researchers, developers and students to research novel user interfaces and interaction techniques with a focus on information management and data-mining.
* Oversaw development of a prototype leveraging keyword extraction and clustering of a person's email, providing dynamic categorization of their content. Created scenarios, wireframes, UI design and managed usability testing.
* Submitted a paper to CHI 2005 discussing the prototype usability study and results.

Design Consultant, Microsoft Consulting Services
June 2001 to August 2003
Responsible for delivering world-class user experiences for a wide range of mediums - including Tablet PC, web, and other emerging technologies with internal and external Microsoft customers.
* Provided user workflow analysis, information architecture and user interface design for a medical application that merged 13 existing applications into a cohesive user experience. The project enhanced the communication and workflow of the patient encounter, increasing overall practice efficiency.
* Provided information architecture, visual design and project management for a proof-of-concept prototype developed for the 2002 HIMSS medical conference. The prototype showcased Tablet PC technology and its integration with a doctor's traditional workflow.

Design Director, FizzyLab
May 2000 to February 2001
Responsible for defining and communicating the user experience of FizzyLab products, as well as all visual branding.
* Responsible for information architecture and user interface design of four products.
* Worked directly with customers to ensure FizzyLab solutions fit within their site's look and feel.
* Directed the conception and design of FizzyLab's new identity, website, product demos and other marketing collateral.
* Leading participant in cross-functional team responsible for developing and presenting the 2001 company tactical plan. Process included market research, product development initiative prioritization, scope analysis, internal resource analysis and budget analysis.

Lead Designer, Amazon.com Community
August 1999 to May 2000
Responsible for working with product management, engineering, web development and executives to successfully leverage Amazon.com's audience through community services.
* Developed the user interaction framework for the entire section.
* Participated in the development of scenario concepts and designs for different users.
* Designed three new features and the overarching shell to pull existing features into a cohesive whole.
* Participated in various usability tests to gather information on concepts and designs.
* Worked in the picking line and wrapped several hundred gifts during the night shift for two weeks in Georgia.

Creative Director, Headbone Zone
August 1996 to August 1999
Responsible for defining, communicating, and overseeing the implementation of the Headbone Zone Vision: to revolutionize the way kids interact with each other across converging media, as well as how they access, create, and control the information and content that is vital to their lives.
* Co-developed the Headbone Interactive Product Plan.
* Responsible for hbzChat and Communication Channel development.
* Managed the editorial, design, and production groups.

Design and production for several print projects, website and interface design, and project management:
* Produced a CD-ROM game, Elroy's Costume Closet.
* Package design and production for two CD-ROM products, Elroy Goes Bugzerk and Pantsylvania.
* Designed Headbone Interactive's website.
* Designed the interface for Elroy Hits the Pavement.

Design and production for several print and television projects, including:
* Four issues of Ray Gun.
* Cyclops, a photography book by Albert Watson.
* Teenagers in Their Rooms, Chronicle Publishing.
* Two packaging projects for Levi's L2 product.
* Type design for AT&T and Mennen television commercials.

Design, production and layout for an 88-page, bimonthly, electronic publishing magazine with a 300,000 readership:
* Design assignments including features, technical stories, and Q&A sections.
* Art-directed additional projects by freelance production artists as needed.
* Created technical and spot illustrations as necessary.
